한국에서 '재학증명서'를 "certificate of registration"라고 표현한다. 하지만 영미권에서 실제로 사용하는 표현은 다르다. 미국 Calvin Theological Seminary에서는 "a letter confirming student status"라고 지칭한다. 영국 University of St Andrews에서는 "a student status confirmation letter"라고 부른다. 영국 내 다른 학교에서는 "a student status letter"나 "a confirmation of student status letter"라고도 한다.

성적증명서는 학교 사무처나 홈페이지 등을 통해서 쉽게 신청할 수 있다. 그런데 재학증명서는 개별적으로 요청해야 한다. 이건 CTS나 St Andrews나 마찬가지이다.
