시적 정의(Poetic Justice)

“Poetic justice was coined by Thomas Rymer, in the later seventeenth century, to denote his claim that a narrative or drama should, at the end, distribute rewards and punishments in proportion to the virtues and vices of each character.”

즉 ‘시적 정의’란 어떤 문학작품의 등장 인물이 결국 그간 자신이 저지른 행위에 합당한 결과를 치러야만 한다는 것으로, 시나 소설 속에 드러나는 권선징악 혹은 인과응보의 사상을 말한다.
