요한은 예수의 죽음 이후 남겨진 무리에 대해 말하지 않는다

Johannes Beutler의 요한복음 주석은 꽤나 유용한 자료이다. 나는 그로부터 많은 도움을 받고 있지만, 간혹 의문스러운 문구를 남겨두기도 했다. 아래는 그 중 하나이다.

What are we to gain from the formula repeated five times that the good shepherds “give/lays down” his life for his sheep? Here, we are helped by a text out of the Synoptic passion narrative (Mark 14:27 par. Matt 26:31) that interprets the beginning of Jesus’s passion and the subsequent scattering of the disciples. There is also a Synoptic parallel for the motif of the gathering of the sheep of Israel in Matt 15:24; 10:6 where the connection with Ezek 34 is especially prominent.

요한복음 10장 선한 목자 담론에서 예수께서 자신의 죽음을 가르치신다. 17-18절에서 예수의 죽음 이후 남겨진 무리에 대한 말하지 않는다. 본문의 관심은 예수의 죽음 이후 부활이 예수의 선택이며, 그 선택은 아버지의 계명을 수렴한 것이라는 데 있다.

그러나 Beutler는 본문을 넘어서 공관복음 수난사화와 에스겔 34장을 연결해 은혜로운 해석을 제시한다. 내가 볼 때, 이같은 행위는 해석자의 의무를 넘어서는 것이다.
